Show 74 WEBER COLLEGE - OGDEN, UTAH 22. Clothing Selection and Construction. A continuation of Home Economics 21 with concentrated work on garment construction and pattern blocking. Construction of two garments. Prerequisites: Home Economics 21 and Art 1 and 2. Lectures and laboratory work. Three quarter hours. Spring. Peterson 23. Clothing Renovation. A course dealing with practical laboratory work and the creating of attractive usable garments out of old clothing and used materials. Students are shown how garments can be renewed, variety added to the wardrobe, and the clothing budget cut by renovating and restyling clothes already on hand. Two quarter hours. Spring. Peterson 24. Clothing the Family. A study of problems in clothing for infants, children, and adults; use of commercial patterns; remodeling of garments with emphasis on good design, cost, and appropriateness. The work is planned as a popular course in sewing. Open to all students except home economics majors. Two quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Alleman 25. Clothing the Family. An application of the principles studied in Home Economics 24. Two quarter hours. Winter, Spring. Alleman 27. Textile Fabrics. A study of the production of textiles from the raw material through the process of manufacturing until the fabric leaves the mill as a finished product. The student should gain a back ground to aid in judging the relative values of fabrics with a practical application to selling and purchasing textile merchandise. One laboratory period a week. Field trips are arranged. Five quarter hours. Winter. Peterson, Gray 28. Costume Ornamentation and Accessories. A laboratory course which relates craft work to the clothing field. It focuses attention on costume details and accessories. The students' creative work includes weaving, leatherwork, metal work, button-making, fine needlework, etc. Three quarter hours. Winter. Peterson 29. Elementary Costume Design. A course concerned with the application of art principles to dress. Students work to express individual personalities through dress design. Several techniques are employed in rendering illustrations. Suggested prerequisites: Art 1 and 2. Three quarter hours. Spring. Peterson 30. Home Nursing. A course planned to help the student in caring for minor emergencies and illness in the home. Prevention of accidents and methods for reporting major catastrophies and controlling the situation until proper authorities arrive are emphasized. Home nursing appliances and improvised nursing equipment are discussed. Simple nursing procedures for convalescent cases are demonstrated. Instruction in preparation of simple convalescent diet under direction of physician is given; methods for making the patient comfortable are practiced. Students are used as patients. Two quarter hours. Winter. Staff 33. Mothercraft. A study of the anatomy and physiology of the re productive system, adolescence, preparation for motherhood, and care of children. A study of the daily care, eating, sleep, and health of the child; of his training, habits, mental attitude, obedience, and discipline; of the child in relation to other personalities; and of parent participation. The Nursery School provides a laboratory for research study in the behavior and development problems of the normal child. The course is open to all women of the College. Three quarter hours. Spring. Hygiene of the School and School Child. A study of the principles of personal and public hygiene and their application to the health program of elementary schools. Required of elementary teachers. Three quarter hours. Winter. Hayes 3. Sanitation. A course emphasizing the fundamentals of public health and the functions of the nurse as a teacher of health. Designed for nurses. Two quarter hours. Autumn. Hayes Mathematics Merlon L. Stevenson Garnett Littlefield William Z. Terry It is recommended that a student pursuing a major in mathematics complete Mathematics 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. A student pursuing a teaching major in mathematics should refer to the Secondary Education Curriculum. 1. Advanced Algebra. A brief review of the elementary principles of algebra: quadratic equations, fractional equations, exponents and radicals, ratio, variation and proportion, progression, and binominal theorem. This course is equivalent in subject matter to the high school second course in algebra. Five quarter hours. Autumn. Littlefield 2. Solid Geometry. A course dealing with lines and planes in space, polyhedrons, cylinders, cones, and spheres. This course is equivalent in subject matter to the high school course in solid geometry.
