A course dealing with trigonometric functions, solution of right angles, logarithms, solution of oblique triangles, applications and general trigonometric analysis. This course is equivalent in subject matter to the high school course in trigonometry. Five quarter hours. Winter, Spring. Littlefield 4. College Algebra. A course of advanced work in the fundamental principles of algebra. Prerequisite: Mathematics 1. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Terry 5. Analytic Geometry. A course dealing with methods of coordinates, construction of equations, geometric interpretation of algebraic equations, linear or straight line equations, cone sections, and transformations of coordinates. Prerequisites: Mathematics 2, 3 and 4. Five quarter hours. Winter. Terry 6. Analytic Geometry. A continuation of Mathematics 5, dealing with empirical equations, an introduction into solid, analytic geometry, lines, planes, and special surfaces in space. Prerequisite: Mathematics 5. Five quarter hours. Spring. Terry 7. Calculus. A general course in differential calculus treating limits, differentiation, and geometric interpretations. Prerequisites: Mathematics 2, 4, 5 and 6 or 10. Four quarter hours. Autumn. Stevenson 8. Calculus. A continuation of Mathematics 7, dealing with indefinite and definite integrals, together with their applications. Prerequisite: Mathematics 7. Four quarter hours. Winter. Stevenson 9. Calculus. A continuation of Mathematics 9, with an introduction to ordinary differential equations. Prerequisite: Mathematics 7 and 8. Four quarter hours. Spring. Stevenson 10. Analytic Geometry. A short course designed primarily for those engineering students who are unable to qualify for Mathematics 5 in time for the winter quarter. Students who take Mathematics 5 and 6 cannot receive credit for this course. Prerequisites: Mathematics 2, 3, and 4. (This course will not apply toward a major or minor in mathematics.) Five quarter hours. Spring. Terry 12. A Survey Course in Mathematics. A unified course dealing with the essentials of algebra, trigonometry analytic geometry, and an introduction to calculus. It is recommended that Mathematics 1 or 4 precede this course. Five quarter hours. Winter. Staff 15. Elementary Statistical Methods. A course which treats the interpretation of statistical data by graphical methods, calculation and interpretation of averages, variability, correlation and reliability. It is recommended especially for students of Accounting and Business Administration. Prerequisites: Mathematics 1, or 4, or 12; or approval of instructor. Five quarter hours. Spring. It is recommended that a student who presents for entrance less than the equivalent of twenty-five quarter hours in one foreign language pursue such language until he has earned a minimum of twenty-five quarter hours. 1. Solfeggio. A study of the rudiments of sight-singing, ear training, and dictation. Two quarter hours. Autumn. Parry 2. Solfeggio: Public School Music. A study of the fundamentals of music. Special emphasis is placed upon methods of teaching music. Three quarter hours. Winter. Parry 3. Solfeggio: Advanced. A course devoted to special work in sight-singing, ear training, and dictation. Two quarter hours. Spring. Parry 4. History Music: Ancient. A course dealing with the origin of music and treating the development of music as an art from its beginning to 1600. Two quarter hours. Autumn. Parry 5. History of Music: Classical. A study of the development of music from 1600 to 1800. Special attention is given Bach Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. Two quarter hours. Winter. Parry 6. History of Music: Romantic and Modern. A development of mu sic from 1800 to the present time. Special attention is given Wagner, Verdi, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Strauss, Debussy, and Stravinsky. Two quarter hours. Spring Parry 7. Appreciation. An intensive and detailed study of music form. Two quarter hours. Autumn. (Not given 1941-1942.) Parry 8. Appreciation: Opera. A course devoted to a technical consideration and careful analysis of several great operas. Two quarter hours. Winter. (Not given 1941-1942.) Parry 9. Appreciation: Symphony. A detailed study of several great symphonies in which emphasis is given to form and instrumentation. Two quarter hours. Spring. (Not given 1941-1942.) Parry 10. Elementary Harmony. A course devoted to the study of chord construction. Open only to students of ability and training. Prerequisite: Solfeggio or its equivalent, and the ability to read music. Three quarter hours.
