The Pioneer Post, October issue, announced that the city would participate in a community Trunk-or-Treat to be held at the L.D.S. cultural hall parking lot, located at 250 North 1500 West. The city donated $100.00 to the community Trunk-or-Treat. it started at 6:00 p.m. Chili, donuts and hot chocolate were served. Prizes were given for the best decorated trunks. Winners were David and Sherry Wadman, first place, Rance and Tiffany Christensen, second, and Mike and Debbie Draper, 3rd place. From all accounts, and pictures available, it is hard to say who had the most fun, children or adults. Next year the event will probably be moved to the city's parking lot. Flu shots, administered by Applegate Home Care, were given on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, from 11.00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the city building. Seniors with Medicare B received them free, with Medicare card and identification. Cost without Medicare was $25.00. This was a great opportunity close at hand to receive protection from what can be a deadly illness. Nominations for our city's annual awards were requested, with a deadline of November 27, 2008. These awards are a chance to recognize someone who has been of exceptional value to our city. The park behind the city office is the recipient of donated plants and trees. Gayle Alien of The Rock Garden at 399 Harrisville Road, has donated plants and ornamental grasses. Trees have been donated by Beverly and Lewis Robinson family, Bernice and Milton Kidman, and Scott and Karen VanLeeuwen. We can all enjoy their generosity in the coming years. Public comment came first from Rodney Price, the applicant, who said he runs an arena, and wants to keep growing hay for his animals. Jeanette Henrie presented the council with a letter stating her concern about dust. A neighbor's air conditioner compressor was damaged because of the dust. She would like the issue resolved.
