Show The Pioneer Post Volume X Issue 12 Marriott Slaterville City Newsletter December Christmas Message The Christmas Season is again upon us. In the last year there have been many changes in our world and nation. Many families are struggling across our country this year. People have lost jobs, homes, and in some cases hope. This season take special note of your neighbors and if you find a need, fill it. We have been very fortunate in our community. I learned this month that Marriott-Slaterville has the lowest foreclosure rate in Weber County according to the Wasatch Front Regional Council. Some of this I attribute to the fact that we know and help each other in this community. Yet, there are still many needs to fill. I wish each of you a Merry Christmas. Keith H. Butler, Mayor Breakfast WITH SANTA Santa will visit Marriott-Slaterville on December 13, 2008, from 9:00 - 11:00 AM at the Senior Center, 1570 West 400 North. Come enjoy breakfast and meet Santa. e is limited, so get your reservation in early. The Marriott-Slaterville Branch of America First Credit Union and the city is sponsoring this activity. The cost is $2.00 for adults, and $1.00 for children 12 and under. Bring your camera! If you have cancelled your current provider or are interested in obtaining garbage service under the city contract please call Keith at the city office at 801-627-1919 ext. 204._ CENTRAL WEBER SEWER INCREASE Central Weber Sewer District is holding a public hearing on December 15, 2008, at 6:00 PM at 2618 W. Pioneer Road to propose a rate increase for sewer treatment. It is proposed to raise rates from $7.50 to $15.00 per month. For questions call the District at 731-3011._ EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS As we approach another Holiday Season, we can be grateful that we have had no major calamities in our city. Your local CERT and Emergency Management members urge you to take some time this season to prepare for an emergency or disaster. Hopefully, we will not see the worst, but inevitably disaster will come. We suggest the following things for your family: Plan. Practice your family emergency plan. This plan should include people to contact, escape routes, rally points, and communication. Consider disasters. Prepare and practice a plan based upon the various types of emergencies we face, such as: fire, earthquakes, and severe storms. Read and review. Keep you plan updated as your needs and family grow. Review what actions should be taken during different disasters like an earthquake, fire, or hazardous material spill. 72-hour kit. Prepare and keep current your 72-hour emergency kit in case you need to leave home or have supplies for 72-hours. In the most severe disasters, help may not be available for at least 72-hours. Your kit should have food, medicine, clothing, and appropriate material for this 72-hour period. We have seen destructive fire, massive flooding, violent winds and storms this year in our country. People have had to rely on their own preparations for days or even weeks. We urge you to consider the effect of a disaster in the community and take time to prepare. If there is someone in the community that has experience as a Ham radio operator and would like to volunteer such service to the community in a disaster, please contact Bill Morris at 801-627-1919 ext. 205.
