Show = BROWNING ARMS COMPANY St. Louis, Mo. December 1, 191 Ve. Gordon c/o Scholefield, Baxter, First Security Ogden, Utah. Dear Wells & Baxter, Bank Bidg., Gordon: You will remember the last time we were in Western Cartridge Co. office that Mr. Olin talked about a recent suit they had against the Government regarding excise tax on shells used for testing. Sometime that they testing were and ago the endeavoring to that since the Federal refund shells Cartridge excise we buy tax from Corp. on them advised shells were us used used for for that purpose we could normally expect a refund on the excise tax paid. Later they advised that the Government had denied their claim and I am now in receipt of the enclosed letter on this subject. The amount of refund in this case is very small and we may not wish to become involved in this matter. Even if we do not wish to do anything about it I thought you might be interested in the development of this particular case. Russell called me the other day on the phone and told me he had been in touch with Mr. Hope, in charge of the Miscellaneous Tax Division regarding tax on stoves and in the course of their conversation had told him something that would be of great interest to us. He suggested that I get in touch with him and he would pass this information on to me. He also very kindly mained with Brownings things would not regarding the tax matter. Personally, informed have I do me taken the not think that had he good for me to talk to him.
