Doss, Director of Practical Nursing Margaret Howard, Roselyn W. Slade The Department of Nursing Education provides training in two general areas. The first of these, the two-year program (eight quarters), is intended to prepare students as registered nurses. The second area is a one-year program (four quarters) designed to prepare students as practical nurses. Descriptions of these two divisions of nursing education follow: TWO-YEAR BASIC NURSING PROGRAM With the beginning of the Autumn Quarter, 1953, Weber College and the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital are inaugurating a new two- year Basic Nursing Education Program which is designed to prepare young people in the field of nursing and to qualify them to take the State Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses. This program is sponsored by the Division of Nursing Education. Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, and has the full support and cooperation of the Utah State Nurses Association, the Utah League for Nursing, and the Representative Committee for the Practice of Nursing. The program is designed to give the student nurse a general educational background. The program prepares a student for hospital and private duty nursing. A student who desires to complete requirements for a professional nurse status leading to complete requirements for a professional nurse status leading toward a Bachelor of Science Degree may transfer to a four-year degree program. The title of an Associates of Science in Nursing will be granted by Weber College upon completion of the prescribed curriculum.
