Doss, Roselyn W. Slade, Margaret C. Howard In the fall of 1952 Weber College, in cooperation with the Thomas D. Dee Memorial and St. Benedict's Hospital, initiated a course in Practical Nursing. This program is designed to be completed in one year — four months study at Weber College, seven months supervised experience at the hospital, and one month vacation. During the clinical experience the student is paid a stipend by the hospital so she "earns while she learns." This field offers many employment opportunities to the qualified individual. The aim is to develop an individual with skill, understanding, resourcefulness, and good judgement so that she may better serve the health needs of the community. When the course is satisfactorily completed a Certificate of Proficiency will be awarded. Since 18 years is the minimum legal age for employment and maturity is essential for this type of work, the training has been planned to start at the close of the 12th grade level. |
