Show 28 WEBER COLLEGE WEBER COLLEGE 29 ELIGIBILITY To be eligible for participation in extracurricular activities, a student must maintain a minimum of C grade in ten hours of college work. Students participating in athletics may refer to the standards as specified by the Intermountain Junior College Athletic Association. Eligibility of contestants in athletics is to be established at the beginning of the quarter in which the contestant is to participate by filing grades for the past quarter with the arbitrator of the Intermountain Junior College Athletic Association or in the case of other activities, with the eligibility committee. Upon the subsequent addition of contestants to the list, the teacher sponsoring the activity shall submit a list of such additional participants. Contestants who are listed as not passing in one or more subjects in the mid-term report shall be required to secure from all of their teachers a statement as to their grades; i. e., A, B, D, D, or E. If they fail to show a minimum of C grade for ten hours they shall be placed on probation. After a probationary period of one week from date of listing the student shall be declared ineligible until the requirements are satisfied. Student Liability: The Weber College Athletic Council is not in any way liable for injuries or illnesses which occur to athletes as a result of participation in the activities sponsored by the college. It is assumed that all who engage in athletics have received permission from parent or guardian to participate and to accept full responsibility. PRE-REGISTRATION During each quarter there is a period of pre-registration for the following quarter. This is a conference plan inaugurated to avoid the problems attendant upon mass registration, and to insure opportunity for giving individual attention to the program of each student. For the year 1936-1937, pre-registration dates will be as follows: Autumn quarter September 15-September 25 Winter quarter November 9-December 18 Spring quarter February 8-March 19 All students are expected to complete their registration, including payment of required fees, before the final registration day of each quarter. Students failing to do this will be charged a late registration fee. Classes are reserved only for students whose fees are paid. Normal Registration: Fifteen quarter hours, exclusive of Physical Education, is the normal registration for any one quarter. Numbering of Courses: Courses numbered from 1 to 49 inclusive allow college credit. Courses numbered 50 and above allow terminal credit. Terminal courses are offered for junior college credit only and are accepted by Weber College toward graduation of the terminal student. These courses may not be accepted at full value by the higher institutions of learning. REGULATIONS Attendance: Registration and enrollment in the different classes of Weber College presupposes that recitations, lectures, and laboratory sessions will be attended regularly. Absence from class necessarily lowers a student's grade. For this reason regular attendance is required. Students who are irregular in their attendance may be dropped from the class involved and given an E in the course. Withdrawals: Subject to arrangements with the registrar, students may withdraw from registration in any class prior to the end of the second week of any quarter. Following the second week of any quarter, no withdrawals are permissable except in instances wherein a passing mark is being maintained. Discontinuance of a class after the second week in instances of failing work is to be reported on the records as a failure grade for the course. Incompletes: Incompletes are permissable only in instances wherein the student has been absent for illness or is delinquent for other thoroughly justifiable causes, and in such instances only when a grade of passing work prior to the absence is revealed by the class record. The giving of an Incomplete is further contingent upon the students having made known the cause of absence to the instructor, prior to the issuance of grades, tI is further provided that any Incompletes given under such rulings shall appear finally on the registrar's records as an E unless duly made up during the first succeeding quarter in which the course is given. Changing of Grades: Grades entered with the registrar shall be unalterable except in instances in which explanation to the Scholarship Committee or to the Administration is expressly made by the teacher concerned, and then, only in the event that error in recording or computing grades is shown as the cause for the change. Make-up Examinations: No make-up examinations shall be allowed except on the payment of one dollar ($1.00) fee to the treasurer and the presentation of the receipt of such payment to the instructor concerned. Warnings to students doing failing work: Warnings shall be mailed by the registrar to the homes of students doing unsatisfactory work at the end of the fourth and eighth weeks of each quarter. AAt the discretion of the registrar serious cases of students doing failing work shall be referred to the Director of Guidance for personal conference with the students concerned. Limited Registration: Students failing to maintain a C average or better, may be limited in the subsequent quarter of registration to a maximum of twelve hours of work and shall be regarded as being on probation during such period of registration. Students working for the school may not be allowed to carry an excessively heavy scholastic load; other students who are working may be advised to limit their registration. Dismissal: Dismissal from the college in so far as it is affected by scholarship shall be enforced whenever a student on probation fails to pass ten hours of work. |
