Show 14 WEBER COLLEGE The large College hall is located on Jefferson Avenue, between Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth Streets, opposite Lester Park The new three hundred thousand dollar gymnasium ad joins the College building on the south and faces on Twenty-fifth Street. EQUIPMENT ChemistryThe chemical laboratory OCCUpies large, well-ventilated rooms in the basement of the new building, and is thoroughly equipped for experimental work in general chemistry. I double desks are provided, each of which has adequate drawer and shelf space, and an entire set of apparatus and reagent bottles. One gas connection with a Bunsen burner is conveniently arranged for the use of each student at his desk Sinks and water connections are also provided. Two chemical balances with weights of precision are among the more costly apparatus. The department has at its disposal a stock of glass tubing, beakers, test tubes, porcelain ware, laboratory hardware and a complete supply of chemicals. New equipment purchased for the opening of the year 1923-24 makes this department an up-to-date college laboratory. PhysicsThe physical laboratory is well sup plied with the apparatus necessary to demonstrate the work offered in courses in college physics. The more important items are a Wimhurst electrical machine, Ruhmkorff coil, movable coils, electric motor, Wheatstone bridge rheostate, Geissler tubes, air pump, lifting and force pumps, adjustable inclined plane, galvanic WEBER COLLEGE 15 meter, electromagnet, sonometer, lenses, thermo meters variety of galvanic cells and a set of apparatus for students' use in the laboratory. Geology- There is provided for the work in geology a representative collection of specimens. The collection includes typical specimens of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks; and samples of the more common lead, silver, gold, Copper and iron ores collected in Utah and ad joining states. The specimens are labeled in separate trays and are classified with respect to origin and composition. BiologyThe equipment consists of the necessary simple and compound microscopes, microtome, sterilizers, glassware, chemicals, stains, reagent, prepared slides, etc., and a considerable amount of plant and animal material prepared in preserving fluids. It also contains an aquarium, in which every stage of development may died. PhysiologyFor work in physiology the laboratory is supplied with a human skeleton, charts and models, and a complete set of slides. Each student is supplied with a set of general dissecting apparatus for individual use. A number of good reference books is kept in the laboratory in addition to the principal collection in the library. Domestic ArtThis department occupies three large, well-lighted rooms, a dress closet, and a fitting room. The department is carpeted, and furnished with drafting tables, separate sewing tables, eighteen sewing machines, models, individual lockers, and a fine glass cabinet for the display of the students' finished work. |
