Shoshonean Tradition milling slab (metate) and hand stone (mano) from a rockshelter located within the Utah Test and Training Range in northern Utah. The metate is made of quartz arenite and the mano consists of some type of metamorphosed feldspar. Both were uncovered together at a depth of between about 30 and 40 cm. and date between about A.D 1400 and 1700. These ground stone implements most likely were used primarily to crush and grind small seeds into flour. |
