SHORT INTENSIVE TRAINING FOR OFFICE POSITIONS The student who does not wish to meet the prescribed recommendations of any business curriculum is free to concentrate on selected courses that will satisfy his special interests and needs. Intensive training may be received in accounting, office machines, stenography, voice-writing and duplicating machines, typewriting, and related business subjects. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION Stenography 31. Elementary Shorthand (Gregg or Thomas). Introduction to the theory of shorthand. Unless the student has had some typewriting, Secretarial Training 41 must be taken concurrently. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter. Vietti 32. Elementary Shorthand (Gregg or Thomas). A continuation of Secretarial Training 31. Five quarter hours. Winter, Spring. Vietti 33. Theory Review, Speed Development, and Transcription. Pre-requisite: Sec. Tr. 32 or equivalent. Five quarter hours. Spring. Vietti 34. Dictation and Transcription. Speed dictation with stress on fluency and accuracy of writing. Stenographic shortcuts, abbreviations, phrases. Mailable transcripts with emphasis on spelling, punctuation, typing, vocabulary. Prerequisite: Sec. Tr. 33 or equivalent. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Vietti 35. Dictation and Transcription. A continuation of Sec. Tr. 34. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Vietti 36. Dictation and Transcription. A continuation of Sec. Tr. 35. Five quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Vietti 38. Hy-Speed Longhand. A method of fast writing based on the English alphabet. Abbreviations, omission and blending of letters, and the substitution of signs and numbers for words and parts of words are the basic principles of Hy-Speed. A system of note-taking. Dictation and Transcription. No prerequisites. Three quarter hours. Spring. Vietti Typewriting 41. Elementary Typewriting. A foundation course in typewriting designed to achieve mastery of the keyboard and to attain a typing speed of at least 25 words a minute, with special emphasis placed on technique and accuracy drills. A course in skill building and office typewriting designed to attain a typing speed of at least 35 words a minute, with special emphasis placed on business letter styles, tabulation, and manuscript typing. A course in office typing projects designed to attain a typing speed of at least 45 words a minute, with special emphasis placed on preparation of telegrams, stencil duplication process, preparation of invoices, credit memoranda, and statements, payroll forms, executive reports, and manuscript typing. A course in work experience designed to attain a typing speed of at least 55 words a minute, with special emphasis placed on standardized letter placement, preparing corporation reports, and legal documents. A course for superior typists designed to attain a typing speed of at least 65 words a minute, with special emphasis placed on speed building and speed problems. Three quarter hours. Winter, Spring.
