Show Wildcat Grid Drafts-First In History Weber State football players were prominent in the NFL-AFL draft this year and became the first Wildcat Gridders in history to be drafted by the pros. First team College Division All-American linebacker Ron McCall, first All-American in WSC history, went in the second round to the San Diego Chargers, while All-Conference quarterback Tim Jones and All-Conference defensive tackle Lew Kamanu were picked by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the draft. McCall, 6' 2", 240 pounds who made believers out of the pro scouts with his spectacular performance in the East-West Shrine Game (he was the first WSC player to be picked for this classic also) signed for a substantial contract with San Diego. Jones, 6' 2", 195 pounds signed with Detroit, but Kamanu, 6' 4", 245 pounder signed with the Canadian League as did Tony MacKinnon, Mose Watkins and Bruce Handley. Wildcats Have A Record Breaking Year No less than 64 individuals and team school records were broken during the 1966 football season by the 6 wins - 3 losses WSC Wildcats. Weber rolled to 4,141 total yards smashing the old mark of 3100 yards, and in passing rolled up 2148 yards compared to 1185. The 460.1 yards per game by the 1966 Cats is well ahead of 344.4 previously set. In scoring the old mark of 270 points in one season was broken by the '66 output of 321 points.
