The “‘little theatre’? movement has a host of supporters who are intensely interested in the theatre because they see in it a means of self-development otherwise closed to them. Believing that song as an art—instead of being a means of universal inspiration, expression and entertainment—has drifted into a very false position, a small group of enthusiasts have organized and incorporated THE SINGERS’ GUILD of San Francisco along lines similar to those of the “‘little theatre’? with the sole purpose of finding simple and comprehensive means of vivifying singing as a cultural activity. The Guild elected Mr. J. Whitcomb Nash as its leader, and it is his wish that teachers, as well as musicians and artists generally, shall be welcomed into the membership of the Guild. We feel the wisdom of this, and young teachers especially are urged to avail themselves of the opportunity of attending the classes and discussions, for it is a major purpose of the guild to promote freer intercourse among the singing fraternity with a view to clarifying the principles upon which successful singing is based. On Wednesday afternoons at 2:30 we shall hold Open House at room 506 Brotherhood Bank Bldg., and if you would care to come kindly secure reservations by telephoning Kearny 4991. Now the Singers’ Guild needs you if you are interested in singing, even a little bit. We want to exchange ideas.
