Professor of Modern and Ancient Languages and Literatures Candidates for an A.A. degree must present ten hours in English, above English one and two, or in a foreign language. Candidates for the A.B. degree must present twenty-five hours of approved work of one foreign language, or the equivalent in high school work which is three units. Requirements for a major in Latin are twenty- five to thirty-five hours of approved work in courses above Latin 4, 5 and 6. A major in a modern language requires thirty- six to forty-five hours in approved courses. The preceding is a summary of the requirements at the University of Utah. v FRENCH French 1. Elementary French. Extensive practice in reading, dictation, and conversation developing the ability to understand French without translation. Training in pronunciation based on phonetic principles. Autumn Quarter. Five credit hours. French 2. Elementary French. Reading, dictation and conversation. The study of the principles of elementary grammar will be completed. Winter Quarter.
