History and Appreciation of Painting and Sculpture. The purpose of this course is to acquaint the student of commerce, the art student, and prospective teacher with the origin and development of painting and sculpture from the earliest forms of art as a means of human expression down through the ages to the present time, establishing art as one of the fundamental elements of higher education. Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters. Two quarter hours. Art 2. Perspective Theory. Using the cone, the sphere, and the cylinder studies in line drawing, and light and shade, establishing the application of perspective to still life landscape and figure drawing and painting. Three quarter hours. Art 3. Color. The theory and enjoyment of color and its application in every day problems. Recommended to students of commerce and art. Art 4. Commercial Art and Posters. This course will consist of commercial illustration posters, show cards, lettering displays, floats, etc. Art 5. Anatomy and Figure Drawing. The study of art form in the human figure by way of artistic anatomy and creative expression. WEBER COLLEGE 31 STUDIO COURSES Conducted as individual laboratory work. Three hours work each week required for each quarter hour granted. Art 6. Drawing. Free hand drawing from still life, cast, and nature. Art 7. Elementary Painting. In water color, oil, and pastel. Art 8. Elementary Modeling. Cast and nature. Relief and the round. Art 9. Elementary Lettering. An aid to show card and sign writing. Art 10. Advance Sculpture. Individual projects in modeling and plaster casting through glue, piece, and waste mold pocesses of casting will be carried out in this course. Plant life, birds, animals, and the human figure will be studied as means of expression in the field of sculpture and ornament. Art 11. Ornamental Modeling and Casting. This course is especially designed for the encouragement of Art students, architects, draftsmen, plasterers, cement finishers, interior and exterior decorators. Art 12. Historic Ornament. Egypt, Assyrian, French, Greek, and Renaissance will be studied thoroughly in this course. Art 13. Advanced Painting. Animal, landscape, figure or portrait may be chosen in advanced painting and drawing. Private instruction may be obtained in any of the foregoing studio courses by special arrangement with the art instructor. |
