Show 90 WEBER COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC ROLAND CHAUNCEY PARRY JAMES CLAIR ANDERSON, Piano and Organ Since Weber College is a two year institution, we offer only two years toward a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in music, or a Bachelor of Music degree. The aim of the Department of Music of the College is twofold: (1) To provide a thorough training for students who intend to follow the profession of music as artists, teachers, or composers, or who may wish to devote themselves to musical criticism and literature. (2) To develop an intelligent general taste and understanding, a sympathy for music as an art, as for other cultural branches. Requirements for Degrees In order that students may know what leading universities require for a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Music, or a degree of Bachelor of Music, we print the following: University of Utah Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music must complete 183 credit hours of approved work. The 183 credit hours must include English 1, 2, 3, Hygiene 1, Physical Education 2, 3, 4, or Military Science and Tactics 1, 2, 3, and 13 credit hours from each of the following: Mathematics and Physical Science; Biological Science; Language; Social Science. In addition to these requirements the following subjects in Music are prescribed: 1. Departmental Major: Elementary Harmony, 9 hours; Advanced Harmony, 9 hours; Music Appreciation, 9 hours; History of Music, 6 hours; and a total of 10 hours in Voice, Piano, Violin, Wind Instruments, Glee Club and Orchestra. Teaching Major: Elementary Harmony, 9 hours; Advanced Harmony, 9 hours; History of Music, 6 hours; Public School Music Methods, 8 hours; and Voice, Piano, Violin, Wind Instrument, Glee Club and Orchestra, 10 hours. 3. Teaching Minor: Elementary Harmony, 9 hours; History of Music, 6 hours; Public School Music Methods, 8 hours; and Voice, Piano, Violin, Wind Instrument, Glee Club and Orchestra, 5 hours. Utah State Agricultural College Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music must complete 180 credit hours of approved work, exclusive of the required courses in Physical Education. The 180 credit hours must include Language, 18 hours; Social Science, 12 hours; Biological Science, 12 hours; Exact Science, 12 hours. In addition to these requirements the following subjects in Music are prescribed for the department major: 1. Instrumentalists: Elementary Harmony, 6 hours; Advanced Harmony, 6 hours; Instrumentation and Arranging, 4 hours. (See Note.) 2. Vocalists: Elementary Harmony, 6 hours; Advanced Harmony, 6 hours; Public School Music for Grade Teachers, 3 hours; Chorus, 1 hour. (See Note). NoteAll students majoring in music must be proficient on at least one instrument or voice. Enough instruction must have been taken to reach the required standard. Brigham Young University Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music must complete 186 credit hours of approved work. The 186 credit hours must include English 1, 2, 3, Physical Education 11, 12, and 13, or the equivalent, Mathematics and Physical Science, 12 hours; Biology and Psychology, 12 hours; Social Science, 12 hours; English and Foreign Languages, 24 hours. In addition to these requirements the following subjects in music are prescribed: Solfeggio, |
