Show Pg. 28 Enterprize is across the river southeast of Peterson. Two brothers, Henry and Stephen Hales, did the first farming there in the summer of 1861. In September of the same year Jesse C. Haven and Thomas Palmer located there. Roswell Stevens had previously made a claim and in 1862 he built the first house there. Mr. Palmer and Mr. Haven built houses there the same season. Soon after this the Croft family moved over from Peterson. Also Mr. Holmes and George Roberts, who afterwards moved to Henefer. Jesse C. Haven had been the first elder to carry the Gospel to South Africa, in 1851, and also to Gibraltar. He acted as Presiding Elder of Enterprize for 10 or 12 years. He was the third Probate Judge for Morgan County, having been elected to that office in 1869. John K. Hall was the first bishop of Enterprize. He moved there in 1874. He drew the plans for the Morgan Co. Court House and did much of the work on that building, and also the Stake meeting house. Henry Hales and Isaac Bowman were among the first school teachers in Enterprize. Pg. 29 |
