Show Pg. 42 was across Deep Creek, on the land now owned by Joseph Spendlove.” John H. Giles bought out a part of the George D. Grant estate. He was engaged in the sawmill business as well as farming. He drove the east yoke of oxen used here, in his sawmill business. After residing here a many years George Grant moved away. Willard G. Smith was a very prominent citizens of Littleton. He was a Presiding Elder there and later became President of Morgan Stake. In 1866 Littleton became the County Seat of Morgan County.* It remained so for about two years when it was changed to Morgan City. It appears that the overflowing of Deep Creek at one time discouraged the people from locating there. That and other causes induced the laying out of Morgan City. The first white children born in Littleton are said to be Martha Richards Meacham and Frank Little. *After changing the county seat from Peterson to Littleton, Jimmy bond, a resident of Peterson, composed this riddle: Why is the county seat of Morgan County like 1900 lbs. of hay? Answer, Because it is a little ton. Pg. 43 In the year 1877 Milton and Littleton were consolidated into one ward, Miltons, with Eli Whittear as Bishop. |
