Show Pg. 128 On July 1, 1877 Morgan Stake was organized, with Willard G. Smith as President and Richard Fry and Samuel Frances as Counselors. John S. Barrett, Clerk and Historian. The people built a bowery, 100 feet square, in which to hold the conference, apostles, Lorenzo Snow and Franklin D. Richards were in attendance. Also W. W. Cluff. The following members of the High Council were selected by a committee consisting of T. R. G. Welch and W. W. Cluff: Thomas Rich Sr., George Criddle, L. R. G. Welch, L. J. Thurston, Joseph S. Card, George W. Taggart, John H. Rich, Fred Kingston, Jesse Heaven, Richard Rawle, Martin Heiner and David Robison. The Priesthood quorums were organized in 1877 as follows: High Priests; Joseph Mecham Pres., Wm Hemming Counselor. Elders: James McNiven Pres., Charles Tucker and Thomas F. Welch, Counselors. Priests: Charles Turner Pres. Robert Hogg and Thomas Lowell, Counselors. 1st Deacons: Charles Welch Pres., Samuel Francis and Henry Touks, Counselors. 2nd Deacons: William M. Simmons Pres., Alma C. Smith and Moroni Clawson, Counselors. 3rd Deacons: John Palmer Pres., Wm Bosworth and John Arthur Croft Pg. 129 Counselors. Later officers of the First Quorum were: Joseph Francis Pres., Henry Pugh and Ether Butters, Counselors. The 35 Quorum of Seventy of Morgan Stake was organized June 12, 1881. A few of the first Presidents and members were: Thomas Gwen, George Goodrich, James Toomer, Daniel Robison, James Tucker, Mads Poulson, E. A. Richards, Daniel Bertoch and Uriah Cliapin. Relief Society. The Relief Society of Morgan Stake was organized in 1878, in the South Morgan School House, with Lydia Rich, Pres. Amanda Rollo and Jane Toomer, Counselors. H. Cordelia Smith Secy. In April, 1829 the ward societies were organized as follows: North Morgan, Elizabeth Worlton Pres. Richville, An Peterson, pres. Milton, Harriet Spendlove, Pres. South Morgan, Anne Fry Pres. Each Porterville, Maria Porter, Pres. Corydon, Helen Thackery, Pres. Enterprize, Emma Croft, President. West Porterville, Sarah Florence, Pres. Before the Stake organization was effected some of the wards had local Relief Societies, which were enjoyed by the women, as it was the only organization for women in the valley. |
