Show Pg. 102 turned over to, and made a part of the Z.C.M.I., which firm assumed its liabilities, and continued the work; with James Tucker as manager. Later Mr. Tucker bought the shop, and continued business, with James R. Stuart and James L. Worlton as shoe makers. About 1869, soon after the incorporation of Morgan City, and the coming of the railroad, Morgan County appropriated $1500.00 and the territory $1000.00, to build a bridge across the Weber River in Morgan City. It was completed in 1870, and gave South Morgan easy access to the railroad. It proved to be very expensive in the end, costing about $6000.00. Pg. 103 Morgan County Militia. In 1852 Utah was divided into military districts. The Utah Militia was still known as the Nauvoo Legion. In Jan. 1857 Lieutenant General D. CH Wells again issued an order dividing the territory into military districts and commanders were elected for each district. Allen Taylor was appointed to organize Davis County with Philemon C. Merrill as District Commander. Weber Valley was at that time a part of davis County. (From Duplicate copy of Mister Roll, Church Historian’s Office) March 24 – 1858. Col. R. T. Burton, until further orders, will relieve the guard of mounted men at Weber Station (no Morgan) by weekly details of 15 and 10 alternately. Speacks of two detachments at Weber and Echo. March 19 – 1858. Where guards at Echo and Weber Stations increased horses at Weber to be strictly guarded on grass, etc. (This was while Johnston’s Army was camped at Ft. Bridger). |
