Show Valdez Band, Dean West, Phil Stearn, and the Wainscots our helpful neighbors to the south for many years. Interests in Life I have had many interests in life. From an early age, I sewed and embroidered and later I tried drafting my own patters with some success and enjoyed making my own clothes. I studied voice for a short time but didn't feel the interest that I had for piano. In my middle teens, I developed an interest in health through typing many pages of health information for my Aunt Ida Ferrin. I was conscious of my weight and was interested to know how foods could help control weight. This study has been interesting to me all my life. I feel that I have acquired a good deal of health information by using this knowledge. Life's Pleasures Some of life's pleasures that I have enjoyed are peaches, apricots, all kind of nuts especially almonds, pot roast, pheasant is my favorite fowl, watermelon, cantaloupe, cherries, pistachio nut ice cream, whole wheat bread, lemon & pumpkin pies, most vegetables other than carrots, root beer, and fresh milk with cream. I enjoy reading about facts and history more than fiction and enjoy popular and classical novels. Turquoise, all blue shades, orange/red, and some purples are favorite colors. My favorite flower is the rose and others include impatiens, elysium miniature carnations, pansies, peonies like Mother grew, and flowers with fragrant scents. I enjoy the canyon and mountain scenes. I dream of living in Ogden Canyon and hearing the river waters trickling by. A favorite film was "To Kill a Mockingbird" and favorite movie stars are Jimmy Stewart, Katherine Hepburn, Yul Brenner, Lorraine Day, Red Skeleton and Loretta Young. Shopping centers where there are lots of large stores and variety of items are enjoyable to brows through. I have enjoyed gardening and personal improvement. I would have enjoyed visiting England and France. I have always felt myself to be responsible, persevering, independent, creative, and serious-minded. In 1985, sister Madeleine and her sons Lowell and Jerry and I traveled to Church and national historic sites in the Eastern states. We visited the White House, the United Nations, Mt. Vernon, saw two wonderful musical plays in New York City and visited the birth place of President Calvin Coolidge. Church sites we saw were the Sacred Grove, the Hill Cumorah, the Peter Whitmer Cabin, the Joseph Smith Senior family home, and the Memorial at the birth place of the Prophet Joseph Smith in Vermont. We stayed at nights most of the time in Marriott Hotels. While waiting in Kennedy airport to fly back to Utah, we met and spoke with President Ezra Taft Benson who was on the same flight. He had just returned from Italy where he had organized the first stake in that country. In 1990, when I was visiting in Ogden, Madeleine and her family held an Open House for me. It was so special to visit with the friends and relatives who came. It had been such a long time |
