Show 14 ACORN As in previous years, the students will have the privilege of earinng their tickets by selling tickets to the patrons. When a student has sold three he is entitled to one for himself. The lecture course is not a money-making scheme; all that the committee desires to do is to secure the very best speakers and entertainers that can be had and let the course pay for itself. If the students and Alumni will take hold of the work as they have hitherto done, the committee feels sure that the patrons will attend and will be well pleased with the course this year. One cold day last autumn when the snow was falling fast, A and B started out to sell lecture tickets. It was an unpleasant task, but the girls were determined to sell some at least. Loyalty was the little motto they kept in mind. Once in a while, however, their loyal spirits fell when their efforts seemed so fruitless. "O, I'm freezing, we'll be ill if we don't go home," said A, just after being turned down. "Be loyal, A," said B, "let's just go into this house and see if we can't sell one. Come." A sighed and followed up the steps. They rang the bell and the door opened. The entrance was filled up just about the woman was so large. Her untidy red hair was partly hidden under a dirty cap and her bright brown eyes stared at us for a moment, then she nodded her head, if that can really be said, for her neck was so short. It was A's turn to give the little speech. "We are selling tickets for the Weber Academy lecture course. It is--" "What, do you think I got time to go to your lectures when I got thirty boarders in the house?" The rest of her speech was mumbled under her breath and a sharp bang of the door answered for her good-day. "Stung again, A," said Be, as they turned back, "but we'll try again tomorrow. ACORN 15 Music Music, one of the important arts of this institution, will receive due attention this season. About $50 has been expended in purchasing music and as soon as it is received the choir will devote a portion of its time in preparing a number of musical selections, which will be rendered monthly as they were last year. It will also be our privilege to hear some of the best talent in the state. These musicals will aid a great deal in promoting the musical ideals of the school. Prof. Ballantyne says that the cantata for the commencement exercises this year will be the biggest and best the Academy choir has ever rendered. THE BAND The Weber Academy Band, which has so many times delighted the people of Ogden, and which is by far the best organization of its kind in the city, has the prospects for the most successful year in its history. In addition to the instruments which they now have, about $2,000 has been invested and the following instruments have been ordered: One Obi, one E flat Clarinet, three Saxaphones, two French Horns and one set Tympany, one Baritone, one E flat bass and one BB bass. Rehearsals are being held twice a week and the new members have become conspicuous by their rapid progress. Some of the new instruments have arrived and the band will soon be started in full force. The officers of the same will be printed in the next issue. The orchestra is also progressing rapidly. Practice is being held twice a week and most of the time is being used in preparing new dance music. "Patronize the Acorn in a material way if you have to take one subject less.
