Show 16 ACORN Social Events The athletic dance, the first of the season, was a pronounced success, both socially and financially. The hall was artistically decorated with vines and autumn leaves, arranged entirely by the basket ball boys. The presence of the faculty and Student Body, together with members of the Alumni Association, made the Athletic boys feel that they are supported and made them more desirous than ever of maintaining the standard that they established last year. The entire Student Body, with but very few exceptions, attended the faculty's reception to the students given on the evening of October 14. One of the charming features of the evening was the mating of cards by the boys and girls for the Grand W. A. March. Each student was given a part of a card. The gentlemen secured their partners by finding the ladies whose cards matched theirs. At the head was Principal Henderson, who led the lines in such manner as to form a W. A. It was indeed one of the most pleasing parties ever given in the hall. But sh! let me whisper something in your ear. You know Bro. Lind marched with Miss Cleghorn and after that he danced with her. Well, I wished to ask him something so my partner and I followed them. We went all around the room, but we could not draw his attention. "What of that, you ask?" Well, never mind, little Freshie, I guess you aren't old enough to understand. When your study hours are o'er, Of toils and cares you want no more, Just step down to the basement floor, And knock upon the Acorn door, "An acorn, Mac, will you hand me one? I'm tired of study and want some fun, The money is of small concern, When the student's jokes I want to learn." ACORN 17 Devotional Thoughts Happiness lies within each individual, it is dependent upon no person or circumstance in life. Learn what you can be and be it. If we are courageous we can smile on the world and the world will smile back with us. If you will be strong, learn to control your thoughts. Know little and do much rather than know much and do little. Misfortune nobly born is good fortune. The power you receive in obtaining knowledge is the most important thing in your school life and power is measured by the kind and number of habits we form. Do not put off till tomorrow what can be done today. It is the person who overcomes the most difficulties that is the most educated. Are you going to do something this winter to show that you are alive? Keep square with your conscience. |
