Show The Pioneer Post Volume V Issue 11-12 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter November/December 2003 Phone 627-1919-Facsimile 627-1880 Mayor's Message As we conclude another year, I thank our many volunteers for helping make this community a better place to live. This spring our city sponsored a seminar on recruiting and training volunteers. We had Betty Stalling, a renowned volunteer coordinator from Florida, to speak to a room full of volunteer from across the region. Let me relate some of the things our community's volunteers have accomplished during 2003. Volunteers directed the July 2nd golf tournament, July 3rd dinner and karaokee night, the July 4th events and parade, and the summer Music at the Park series. Volunteers conducted the senior night and dinner at Slaterville Park. Roadway beautification projects, nature park maintenance, and weed eradication projects were accomplished. The Park committee finalized its planning. Volunteers made our community booth at the county fair. An emergency management team developed a draft emergency plan. Community Emergency response Team (CERT) members were trained for an emergency. Neighborhood Watch volunteers worked to place signs and identify crime problems. Planning commissioners managed difficult development issues. Additionally, there were other boards, committees, election volunteers, community history volunteers, youth volunteers, and activity volunteers in the community. I cannot name all the volunteers involved for fear of missing someone. Let me suffice to say, if it is not already evident, that the ranks of the volunteers in this community are not few. It is gratifying to be associated with so many individuals who love and care for this community and one another. As the holiday season is upon us I wish each of you a Merry Christmas, and hope for another bright New Year._ Planning Commission Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. Agenda items are still incomplete or otherwise pending, please contact office at 627-1919 for final agenda before meeting. Thanks to Darrell Mecham for his time and expense in removing debris and weeds from roads in the community. Also, for Darrell's and Ames Isreaelson's time and expense in cleaning and landscaping the corner of 200 South and 1500 West. Drainage Issues. Residents are encouraged to keep drainage ways in front of their home and property clear from yard trimmings. Such debris will clog storm drain systems and potentially cause flooding. The Weber County Compost Facility located on Pioneer Road will accept most yard trimmings at little cost. Contact the Compost facility at 726-8212, and remember covered loads are required when transporting debris. Development. For information on decisions of the planning commission contact office at 627-1919. Complaints. Various complaints are received by the city for zoning, junky yards, animals, or businesses. The Council is vested with legislative power to establish complaint procedures. Enforcement is vested in the Mayor and his staff. The Council will forward complaints to the Mayor. The Council has oversight ability to question the Mayor if a complaint is not adequately settled. Complaints may be received by email, over the phone, in writing, or anonymously.
