Waikiki is famous not for its extent, but for its always-balmy water and its marvelous surf. ‘Take a dip at Waikiki on New Year’s day or on the Fourth of July and you will find the water the same, with a temperature somewhere above seventy. Go seeking surf, and you can get into breakers which will delight the strongest swimmer. Go seeking calm, safe, shallow water, with no undertow or sudden depths, and you have it close in, for the surf is strangely but most conveniently located a hundred yards or more out. So Waikiki is equally a paradise for children and adults who are unused to the water, and for the strongest and most venturesome swimmers.
