Here, Kenny Favero, Sharon Powell, Carol Ann Baldwin and Beverly Brown are preparing to leave for a a practice debate. Approximately 900 students from 35 schools in the intermountain area participated in the 18th annual Utah State High School Forensic Tournament, the largest ever to be held at Weber College. Nearly 70 students from our speech department were entered in the three fields; debate, oratory and extemporaneous speaking. Although we didn’t have any first place winners this year, we were very proud of the effort put forth by each participant, and especially of Ronald Bingham and Harry Ketts. Theirs was the only debate team to reach the finals. Each year the Weber College Tournament offers an opportunity for all speech students to gain experience in reasoning and public speaking, besides having a chance to compete for trophies. From the regional meet to the state meet, Weber was prepared to go to the top. During the school year debaters polished off their debates almost to perfection.
