Show 18 WEBER COLLEGE The large College hall is located on Jefferson Avenue, between Twenty-fourth and Twenty- fifth Streets, opposite Lester Park. The new three hundred thousand dollar gymnasium adjoins the College building on the south and faces on Twenty-fifth Street. EQUIPMENT The library contains over 9,000 bound volumes and 500 pamphlets, (estimated). The College has five buildings. The laboratory equipment is found under respective departments. GYMNASIUM The Weber Gymnasium is open to all students of the college. Its attractive swimming pool, beautiful ballroom, and large basketball floor add new joys and advantages to the Weber College curriculum. Courses in men's and women's gymnastics may be found listed under the Physical Educa- cation Department. COLLEGE YEAR The school year is divided into quarters. The Autumn (Sept., Oct., Nov.). The Winter (Dec, Jan., Feb.). The Spring (March, April, May). For the year 1926-27 the exact dates for the opening of the three quarters are: Autumn Quarter, September 13, 1926; Winter Quarter, December 6, 1926; Spring Quarter, March 7, 1926. Students are admitted at the opening of each quarter. A quarter is 12 weeks. WEBER COLLEGE 19 STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND ACTIVITIES Board of Control The students of the Weber College have constituted themselves into a self-governing body known as the Associated Students of the Weber College. This body exercises control over all forms of activity in which students are interested, such as athletics, dramatics, publications, amusements and debating. The executive power of this organization is vested in a Board of Control. Athletics With such an organization in control of activities all phases of the student's life, recreational, athletic, social and theatrical, are provided for. The College is a member of the Church Junior College League, which insures an interesting athletic program. Interclass and intercollegiate contests in football, basketball and track afford opportunity for all students in athletics. The Utah-Idaho Junior College Basketball Tournament is usually held in the Weber Gymnasium during the Winter Quarter. Public Speaking Contests The James L. Barker Extemporaneous Speaking Contest. To the class of the school attaining the highest number of credits in this contest, the James L. Barker Cup is awarded. To the student receiving first place a cash prize of ten dollars is given. |
