Show 46 WEBER COLLEGE quarter hours in physical and health education, nine hours in English and twenty-seven hours in professional educational subjects which must include educational psychology or psychology of childhood, principles of education, methods of teaching elementary subjects, the Utah State Course of Study for Elementary Schools, educational organization and administration, and practice teaching. First Class Certificate. Valid for five years; granted to an applicant who has taught successfully in Utah for two years and has completed a standard four year high school course or its equivalent, and fifty-two and one-half quarter hours of approved normal school or college work, including twenty hours in educational subjects, among which educational psychology or psychology of childhood, principles of education, health education and educational organization and administration are required. This certificate is granted also to graduates of approved two-year normal courses which cover the scholastic and professional requirements for a diploma of grammar grade, including practice teaching to the extent of twelve quarter hours. The first class certificate, upon expiration, is subject to one-year extensions, provided, the holder completes seven and one-half quarter hours of approved normal school or college work for each extension. The first class certificate is not renewable. WEBER COLLEGE 47 EDUCATION Education 1. Principles of Education. This course deals with the meaning, aims, and function of education and its relationship to other agencies and institutions. Required for a state certificate. Fall, Winter, or Spring quarter. Daily. Five credit hours. Professor Winsor. Education 2. School Administration. A course in efficiency in the class room. A treatment of organization and routine. Fall, Winter, or Spring quarters. Three credit hours. Professor Winsor. Education 3. State Course of Study. This course is given in response to the general demand for a greater mastery of subject matter by prospective teachers. The information to be taught will be studied and organized so that it can be taught efficiently. T. and Th. Fall quarter. Two credit hours. Miss Stark. Education 4- Primary Education. The spontaneous, purposeful activity of the child is studied as the basic principle determining method. Consideration is given to school room equipment organization and play activity. Daily. Winter or Spring quarter. Five credit hours. Miss Stark. Education5. Observation and Elementary Training. This course is essentially a laboratory course affording opportunity for practice teachers to apply the principles of teaching developed in the theoretical courses. Students actually teach not less than one hundred hours, and receive the benefit of frequent constructive criticism of expert supervisors. Required for a state certificate. |
