A study of the elements of Hebrew poetry, narrative, wisdom literature, etc. An appreciation of the finer qualities of Hebrew Literary art and their bearing on the Literature and customs of our day is sought. Spring Quarter. Text: Extracts from various books of the Bible; Isaiah, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Apocrypha, the Book of Tobit and Ecclesiasticus. Two credit hours. Book of Mormon Book of Mormon 1. Small Plates of Nephi. A technical study of the various books of the small plates of Nephi will be made. Prophesies and their fulfillment. Careful textual study. Research work. Fall Quarter. Text: I Nephi, II Nephi, Jacob, Omni, Jarom, Enos. Two credit hours. Book of Mormon 2. Book of Mosiah, Alma, Heleman. A historical study, emphasizing the religious and civil development of the Nephites down to Christ's ministry. Winter Quarter. Two credit hours. Book of Mormon 3. Ill Nephi, IV Nephi, Mormon, Ether, Moroni. Christ's Ministry. Jaredite civilization. The fall of the Nephite civilization. Spring Quarter. Two credit hours. WEBER COLLEGE 75 New Testament New Testament 1. The Life of Jesus Christ. A constructive study of Jesus as the literal Savior of the world with emphasis upon the personality factors which account for His mastery. This course is directed with a view to making these concepts function in character formation. Fall Quarter. Two credit hours. New Testament 2. The Four Gospels. An interpretive study of the teachings of Jesus as reported in the four Gospels with emphasis on the doctrine of the Gospel. (Note: A suggestive course to follow this one if the curriculum permitted would be a study of the literary and social characteristics of the Four Gospels with the purpose of cultivating an appreciation of their literary value and of interpreting modern social life in the light of the moral and ethical teachings of Jesus.) Winter Quarter. Two credit hours. New Testament 3. The Apostolic Age. A short history of Christianity in the apostolic age as revealed in the acts of the Apostles and the Epistles of the New Testament. The struggles, ideals, and methods characteristic of the development of the primitive church and the Latter-Day Saint Church are correlated. Special emphasis is placed upon the missionary work of Paul. Spring Quarter. Two credit hours. Doctrine and Covenants Doctrine and Covenants 1. Sections 1-20. This course is a survey of the preparation of the world for the Dispensation of the Fullness of Time. |
