Show Ed Gillette Memorial - June 25, 1996 Ed Littlefield Remarks The Bohemian Club was an important part of Ed's life. Each summer Ed made his annual pilgrimage to the Bohemian Grove. Some Bohemians can only stay for one week end. Others manage to make all three weekends. Ed belonged to a particularly elite and fortunate group. He arrived a day before the official opening and departed seventeen days later, seventeen pounds heavier, filled with fattening food and fond memories. Ed was a distinguished member of Mandalay Camp. No one got more out of Mandalay. No one put more into it. Only three of the present members have been there longer than Ed and he has survived 14 of the 40 members elected after him. It is not easily proven that Mandalay caused any changes in Ed's approach to life but it is crystal clear that Ed left his indelible mark on Mandalay. He will be sorely missed! Each day the early risers would be gathered around the breakfast table. Sometimes their heads would be buried in the newspapers. Sometimes they would be engaged in weighty discussion with the participants including such members as Henry Kissinger, George Shultz, Gerry Ford or guests like Helmut Schmidt, Valerie Giscard d'Estang, or Lee Quan Yew. |
