Show 6 ACORN Our New Gym. Rumor says we're to have a Gymnasium, And one of the best in the state. Where we all can get physical training And can practice both early and late. It will have full equipment for wrestling, Weights, pulleys, dumbbells and rings, Some fine shower baths, a large swimming pool, And numberless other grand things. A good thorough course in athletics, Is one that a student enjoys. It will give ease and grace to our girls, And quickness and strength to our boys. We certainly need a gymnasium; It will show what our students can do; When they have proper care and good training, Then our "championship" dreams will come true. Then, All Hail! to the Weber Gymnasium, May the rumors we hear be the truth, And may all of its students be ever The perfection of athletic youth. Coach Harker says he is "De-lighted"; We share that opinion with him. And we'll all raise our voices in giving: Nine 'Rahs for the new Weber Gym. BOOSTER. ACORN 7 Katie's Dream "Success is gained only through perseverance by constant striving and pressing onward," Katie read, as she sat idly glancing over the leaves of a book. "Oh," she cried, "that's what they all say. They always speak of 'pressing onward!' I've 'pressed onward' till my heartaches and despair is all I've been able to press on to. All my life I've 'pressed onward' and I've only reached a point where I'm almost ready to give up." And flinging her book aside, she began to get ready for bed. Katie's life was not very pleasant. Her parents being dead, she lived with an aunt who, though kind in a way, was hardly the right kind to understand the nature of a child. Katie's dream had always been to become a great success in life, but for years she had been unable even to go to school. Now, when at last that obstacle had been removed, she found herself almost overcome with timidity and shyness. She hardly dared breathe in the new surroundings, and the difficulties she met every day seemed overpowering. Falling into a troubled sleep that night, her waking thoughts were mingled with her dreams. Enveloped in a great cloud of darkness, she was blindly staggering, groping, and struggling forward. Her feet seemed fastened to the earth and she felt ready to drop with exhaustion. Suddenly in the distance she perceived a dim light. It grew larger and larger as it came towards her. A figure in the light advanced and took her hand. At the touch, a thrill of happiness permeated her whole being. "Who are you? A fairy?" she asked. It spoke and its voice was like music. "I am called Hope. I have always watched over you and been with you. Look ever upward and you will see me. Keep my companion, Perseverance, always at your side. You may think she is grim, and at times almost harsh, but look closely and you will see beneath it, a gentle smile and a loving tenderness." She paused, then pointing far into the distance, she continued: "See yonder in the heavens our queen, 'Success;' see the few who have |
