Summer Festival Attracts Musicians Students from the intermountain west attended the Summer Music Festival sponsored by Weber State College. The sessions involved workshops and lectures led by noted professional musicians and instructors from around the country. Among them was Dr. William D. Revelli, Director of the Michigan State University Band. At the close of the summer sessions, Revelli directed a festival band in public performances. Weber State music faculty members Loren Crawford and Fay Hanson assist a student during the summer sessions. The Weber State Singers is composed of the best vocalists on campus. Music Department Reaches Highest Enrollment Members of the Weber State Singers performed the solo parts of the "Messiah." The year marked the highest enrollment in the WSC music department. The six groups were band, orchestra, concert choir, WSC Singers, Voce coeds and college choir. The WSC Singers and band represented the college on annual tours. Smaller groups also have presented programs for various churches and civic groups. Several outstanding performances were recorded by the music department. For the first time, a grand opera was presented - "Carmen." At Christmas, the combined choirs pleased audiences in their rendition of selections from Handel's "Messiah." The band played an important part in promoting school spirit at football and basketball games. |
