A course embodying principles of art and materials relating to elementary schools, and including a discussion of and the practice in the elements of drawing, design and color with reference to the elementary school work. One quarter. Three credit hours. 2. Art Appreciation. Art principles as applied to costume, interior decoration, painting, sculpture and architecture. Spring quarter. Two credit hours. 3. Drawing. Fundamental free hand drawing, and painting from still life, simple casts and nature, in pencil, pen and colors. Autumn quarter. Four credit hours. 4. Designing. General principles of design in pattern and colors as applied in industrial art and posters made on the basis of the psychology of advertising. Winter quarter. Four credit hours. 5. Interior Decorating. A study in planning and decorating homes. Spring quarter. Three credit hours. THE DEPARTMENT OF DRAMATIC ART Professor McKey 1. Technique of the Drama. Autumn quarter. A practical course, taught largely through the staging of One-Act Plays. Texts: Clark's "How to Produce Plays;" Taylor's "Practical Stage Directing for Amateurs." DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS AND SOCIOLOGY Professor Wilson Professor Winsor 1, 2, 3. Economics. As a background for the study of the fundamental laws and principles underlying our modern economic institutions and life, a brief study is made of man's economic development. Modern economic life together with the principles governing men in their present day economic efforts is carefully analyzed and studied. Sufficient attention is devoted to special economic problems to serve as a foundation for more intensive study in advanced courses. Taussig's "Principles of Economics" is used as the regular text, but extensive reading is required in Ely, Carver, Seager and various other recognized authorities. Autumn, Winter and Spring quarters.
