Show INTRODUCTORY. In presenting this, the eighth volume of the Ogden City Directory, we wish to thank our patrons for their continued support and congratulate them upon the showing we are able to make in respect to growth of the City and business conditions. We also desire to thank the public in general for courtesies extend¬ed to our solicitors and canvassers while they were engaged in the collection of names and other information necessary to the completion of this work. Population This Directory contains by actual count, 9824 names—an increase of 1182 over the number contained in the last edition (issued January 1st, 1902). Us¬ing the usual multiple of 3, we estimate the present population of Ogden and the suburban towns to be 29,472. Attention is called to the fact that various fraudulent and worthless directo¬ries have been exploited here lately. The Association of American Directory Publishers offers a reward of one hundred dollars for the arrest and conviction of any person or persons engaged in canvassing, publishing, or collecting for any fake or fraudulent directory. Several such operators have been punished by im¬prisonment, but others are still engaged in these swindles, and great caution is reeessary to avoid being imposed upon by plausible misrepresentations of can¬vassers for books that never appear as promised, and much valuable time and money is wasted by business men in this way. Safety lies in dealing only with well known publishers, having established reputations. R.L. Polk co R.L. Polk, president. Ed. W. Duncan, vice-pres. And treas. W. p. cooper, secty and manager.
