Show POCATELLO, Idaho—Return of several stars to the Idaho State College Bengal football squad has given Coach Johnny Vesser new hopes for the season, which opens September 26, and increased the working group to from 45 to 50 men. Among the returnees are Harry Dickson of Pocatello, given recognition last year as a Little All-America tackle; Sam Maynard of Pocatello, a former end on the University of Utah squad; Cecil Flint of Idaho Falls, a center, and Leno Seopi of Lava Hot Springs, who played last year as tackle after suffering a broken hand while working as center. With other men the Bengal squad is showing rapid improvement and a picture that was dark a week ago is considerably brightened with more men registering and class work under way. Bolstering Bengal chances is Orval Baker, a former Pocatello high school star, who is returning to play after war service and will be a regular fullback. Big, rugged and devoted to the game, Baker will mean a lot to the squad. Vesser is pleased with the backfield candidates and believes he has little worry in that department. He reports three “pretty good” quarterbacks in Bob Sherman of Boise, a Bengal veteran; Jim Blake of Jerome, who played with Oregon State last year, and Jay Childers of Walla Walla, a veteran. Jake LaRue of Pocatello is expected to have a great year as left halfback, a post to be shared with Rudy Perkins of Pocatello and Glae McDonald of Glendale, Baker and Pete Richardson of Rockland, another big boy and with some experience last year, will plug the fullback spot. Maynard and Bob Hilliard, members of last year’s club, will have help at the end jobs with Earl Pond of Filer, who played here in 1942; Al Kirlin of Lincoln, Nebraska, reported to be one of Nebraska’s five good ends, and Parr Sainsbury, a Pocatello high school gradvate and all-state honor man last year. FOUNTAIN With Dickson and Seppi at tackle, there will be additional help from Ted Krein of American Falls, Murray Rudd of Pocatello, and Jim Berlin, a 230-pounder PEN and SCHOOL SUPPLIES HEADQUARTERS ex- pected to break up or block a lot of opposition. Gerald Pearson of Pocatello, Harry Worrell of St. Anthony, experienced with the Bengals, and Jerry Bellon of Nyssa and Bill Smith of Hailey are guard material. STEVE’S OFFICE SUPPLY Vesser has outlined a full week’s work, including pass protection and defense, and the squad will play a full time game Saturday.
