Coach Mecham has led the “Wildcat” squad through five successful seasons. During those seasons there has been nothing of the “selective scheduling” going on for Mecham coached teams. Under his tutorship, the Weber boys have opposed such junior college “greats’’ as Compton, Los Angeles City College, Pasadena, John Muir et al. With the exception of incomparable Compton, Mecham-mentored teams have taken their share of victories from all of them. His off-season months are taken up with plans for the coming year. When he is not working on a “sure-fire play,” he is out making “a few calls,” on likely looking prospects. When not making “calls” he may be seen in the bleachers of any high school game held in the area just “looking the boys over” anda fair sized portion of his time is spent in wrestling with knotty athletic financial problems.
