Attended DEAN Valparaiso GARDNER, Ass‘t Coach Born in Logan, Utah, November 10, 1920. Attended School, Coalville, High School, Valparaiso, Indiana, and lettered in football, basketball and baseball. Graduated from Indiana University in 1943 with a B.S. degree in Education. While in university played the three major sports and captained the baseball team in 1943. Won the Gimbel award senior year for outstanding athletic and scholastic ability. Captain in 99th Infantry Div. during the war and fought during the Battle of the Bulge and invasion of Germany. Played professional baseball with the Ogden Reds, a farm team of the Cincinnati Reds. three consecutive years. At Brigham Young Universit y Dean played on the varsity football and basketball for three years, making all conference recognition in football in 1942. He graduated from the “Y” with “high honors” for scholastic work in 1942 and entered the U. S. Navy, where he served on a destroyer during the war.
