The following courses meet the requirements of General Education in the field of the Humanities and are open to all students: French 12, the Culture of France; German 12, the Culture of Germany; and Spanish 12, the Culture of Spain and Latin America. French 1. Elementary French. A course for students who have had no previous knowledge of French. Stress is placed upon ear training and oral practice. Five quarter hours. Autumn. Staff 2. Elementary French. A continuation of French 1. Five quarter hours. Winter. Staff 3. Elementary French. Prerequisite. One unit of French (high school) or French 2. Five quarter hours. Spring Staff 4. Intermediate French. Prerequisite: Two units of French (high school) or French 3. Three quarter hours. Autumn. Staff 5. Intermediate French. A review of French grammar and conversation. Drill based on extensive reading. Three quarter hours. Winter. Staff 6. Intermediate French. A course devoted to the reading of short stories, novels, and dramas. Three quarter hours. Spring. Staff 7. 8, 9. Conversational French. Intensive oral drill using language laboratory facilities. Each two quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Staff French Culture 12. The Culture of France. The language, literature, and people of France studied by illustrated lectures. Given in English. Three quarter hours. (May not be given.) Staff Italian 1. Elementary Italian. A study of the elements of grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary building. Special attention to accurate pronunciation for the benefit of the students of music and art for whom Italian has special interests and value. Five quarter hours. Autumn. Staff 2. Elementary Italian. Continuation of Italian 1. Five quarter hours. Winter. Staff 3. Intermediate Italian. Continuation of Italian 2. Reading and conversation. Extensive use of tape recorders and Italian language records. Five quarter hours. Spring. Staff German 1. Elementary German.
