Three quarter hours. Staff Machine Practice 51. Processes. Course designed for those who have had little or no machine shop training. Discussions and demonstrations are given in fundamentals of lathe operation, such as tool grinding, setting up apparatus, chucking work, center drilling, facing, rough and finish turning, shoulder turning, radial and fillet forming, knurling, threading, drilling, boring, reaming and taper turning, Safety precautions are stressed. Five quarter hours, Winter. Staff 53. Machine Processes. Introductory work on shaper and milling machines. Basic fundamentals in operating both machines is stressed. Five quarter hours. Spring. Staff 54. Machine Processes. Advanced milling work, spinal milling gearing, profiling, cam work, use of attachments in doing special jobs etc., metal sawing, elementary heat treatment of metals. Five quarter hours Autumn. Staff 55. Machine Processes. Grinding machine operation: surface grinder, cylindrical grinder, universal tool and cutter grinder, and grinding work in a lathe. Five quarter hours. Winter. Staff 56. Machine Processes. Jig and fixture fabrication and use is stressed along with tool and die making including punch press operation.
