The course in engine overhaul includes instruction and practice in the overhaul of a radial engine of current use such as, disassembly into sub-assemblies, unit disassembly, inspection, cleaning, unit reassembly, final assembly, valve and ignition timing, and basic engine theory. Gaz, Handsaker, Luddington, Holmes, Pearson, Nielson, Houtz Fabric, Leather, and Canvas. The course in fabric, leather, and canvas includes: units on material and fittings on the use of power sewing machines, cutting tools, grommet dies, making patterns, layout, upholstering, reinforcing, and covering of wings and control surfaces. Emphasis is placed on applications to the aircraft trade. Staff Instruments. The course in instruments includes instruction on the repair and testing of electrical meters, temperature gauges, electric tachometer, oil pressure gauge, fuel pressure gauge, oil temperature gauge, rate of climb, air speed, and miscellaneous gyro instruments. The learner is specialized on certain groups of these instruments. Staff Machine Shop. The course in machine shop includes drill press operation; lathe operation; use of gauges, micrometers, and line-graduated instruments. McCormac, Lee, Davis, Sorenson, Foulger, Larson Paint and Doping. Burrows Arc Welding. The course in arc welding provides practice in the use of arc welding equipment both AC and DC in welding ferrous metals in all positions. The instruction is designed to produce specialists in construction welding, ship welding, and pipe welding. Allen IN-PLANT TRAINING Department of In-Plant Training Staff In-plant training curricula have been designed in view of the war emergency which has necessitated the training of thousands of workers in new jobs. Weber College is prepared to offer, in cooperation with the Federal Government, training "on the job." This program utilizes the experience of the school in setting up training programs and provides for instruction while the workers are producing. Under this program an instructor works in cooperation with the foreman to train workers in specific jobs right in the plant. SUPERVISORY DEVELOPMENT Department of Supervisory Development Staff The supervisory development curricula comprise courses of approximately 10 hours' length in (1) organization and management, (2) job instruction, (3) job relations, and (4) job methods. These courses are fitted to the needs of the industries in the Ogden City area and are designed to help the foreman, supervisor, and leadman increase their efficiency. |
