MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY JANUARY 2000 This winter has been mild. Undoubtedly the city is saving funds in the snow removal area this month. Other road maintenance for the first month of operation has also been minimal, and fortunately, the city has been able to save our road funds for future use. With another decade commencing, the United States is gearing up to conduct a census for 2000. This is an important time for Marriott-Slaterville since this census with determine distributions of funding for our community over the next ten years. Randy Phipps, Planning Commission Chair, over the last several months, has been working on a trails and pathway project. I have assisted in putting together a TEA-21 (transportation enhancement) grant to construct a trail from 1700 South along the old Denver-Rio Grand Railroad line to 1200 West. With the go ahead from the city council, this grant was submitted by the end of the month to UDOT. It was an extremely complicated grant preparation process. Randy Phipps is developing an extensive trail system throughout the community which will be proposed to the planning commission and city council. The city's Youth Council held their first activity this month. On January 19, 2000, the Youth Council attended the "Local Officials' Day at the Legislature". All of them enjoyed this event.
