"SET-BACKS" FOR AGRICULTURAL ANIMALS There have been several questions asked by residents recently about how close barns and houses may be built to each other. The answer is as follows: For agricultural buildings not containing animals, the building must be at least three feet from the property line and must not be attached to any residential building. For buildings containing agricultural animals (animals other than pets), the building must be at least 25 feet from the property line, feet from any public street or right-of-way, 10 feet from a person's own house, and 50 feet from other houses. A fenced area or corral for agricultural animals may be immediately adjacent to the property line or public street or right-of-way, but must be 10 feet from a person's own house, and 25 feet from other houses. The same limits apply to the construction of any new house or other building near an already existing agricultural building or fenced area. These requirements are in addition to any regular setback requirements for the applicable zone. Please contact the City Office (627-1919) if there are any questions.
