Show 200 52. Reading Clinic. A clinic conducted for students with serious reading problems. Those students enrolled in English 51 will be expected to take advantage of clinic facilities. Students not enrolled in English 51 who have serious reading problems may enroll in the clinic for special help. Three quarter hours. 82. Preparation of Oral Reports. A course designed for workers and supervisors in business and government to develop skills in the preparation and delivery of oral reports. SPEECH 22. Summer Theatre Workshop. A workshop in outdoor theatre which culminates in the production of a major Weber College Theatre Play. The course is open to high school graduates and college students. A limited number of students who have not graduated from high school may be admitted by special arrangement. Two quarter hours. 23. Children's Drama Workshop. A workshop in creative dramatics for children between the ages of six and twelve years. Offered in conjunction with a course in creative dramatics for elementary teachers. Enrollment will be limited. No credit. Summer. DIVISION OF LIFE SCIENCES The Division of Life Sciences offers courses in the departments of General Education for Life Sciences, Bacteriology, Biology, Agriculture and Forestry, Botany, Home and Family Life, Nursing, Physiology, and Zoology. Many courses in this division will be taught in the Evening School, and, in addition, the following courses may be offered: VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE 51 Fruit and Vegetable Crop Production. Location of fruit planting, varieties, propagation, pruning, soil management, and culture of vegetable crops. Three quarter hours. 54. Plant Propagation. Propagating flowers, trees, or shrubs to be used around the home, on the farm, or in the garden. Four quarter hours. 55. Floriculture. Designed to aid those interested in culture, arrangement, and marketing of flowers. Five quarter hours. 56. Pest Control. Control of weeds, plant diseases, and plant insects on the farm or in the garden. Three quarter hours. 59. Practical Field Crop Production. Production of beans, sugar beets, corn, potatoes, and other crops. Two lectures and one laboratory period a week. Three quarter hours. 61. Farm and Garden Soils. Choosing and managing soils. Five quarter hours. 201 64. Practical Irrigation. Methods of water application for orchards, gardens, and farms. Five quarter hours. 65. Drainage Problems. Improvement of poorly drained soils by properly planned drains and soil treatments. Five quarter hours. 67. Soil Management and Fertilizer Use. Types of fertilizers to be purchased and methods of fertilizer application will be emphasized. Five quarter hours. 68. Pasture Management. Selection of land and mixture best adapted to the various types of soil and moisture conditions, methods of establishing pasture, rotating with other crops; methods of grazing, fencing, fertilizing, and other management problems. Two quarter hours. 71. Practical Livestock Feeding. Choice and use of feeds and in the modern methods of feeding livestock. Five quarter hours. 72. Beef Production. Breeds and market classes of beef cattle. The selection of feeder and fat cattle. Management practices in purchasing and fattening cattle for market. Marketing of home grown crops through beef cattle. Study of cattle feeding operations. Five quarter hours. 78. Practical Livestock Breeding and Selection. Principles of breeding and selection of farm animals. Two quarter hours. 75. Practical Poultry Management. Poultry breeding, feeding, sanitation, and culling of flocks. Four quarter hours. 76. Animal Hygiene. Prevention and control of infectious diseases, and care and treatment of wounds and injuries of all types of livestock. Five quarter hours. 77. Practical Dairy Herd Management. Use of dairy equipment and the general practices of feeding and mangement of a dairy herd. Four quarter hours. 80. Practical Marketing of Livestock. A program planned in cooperation with all the marketing agencies of the area to train those interested in buying and selling livestock at the stockyards. Three quarter hours. 84. Field Laboratory. Special problems based on individual needs. Credit arranged. Two quarter hours. 86. Farm Bookkeeping Records. A program designed to acquaint the farmer with the fundamentals of accounting with particular application to the business of farming. Included will be record keeping and project analysis. Three quarter hours. 87. Farm Management. A study of the factors of production, prices and economic trends, budgets, labor and feed records choice and combination of enterprises. Five quarter hours. 89. Utah Farm Law. Designed to give the farmer the important principles of law in a language he can understand. Three quarter hours. |
