Hancock DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC J. C. Anderson, D. Dickson, Glen L. Hanson, C. W. Johnson, *R. C. Parry, H. Pettigrew Music It is recommended that a student pursuing a major in music complete the following courses: Music 1, 2, 3; 7, 8, 9; 10, 11, 12; 15, 20, 24, 30, and 31. It is recommended also that a student participate in the choral and instrumental activities and organizations directed by the Department. Each activity has a curricular basis. 1. Choral. Each year those whose interests are in the field of choral music concentrate their efforts upon the presentation of an opera, an oratorio and two formal concerts. Choral activities center around the College Choir. There are two smaller singing units: the Dorian singers, a selected group of vocalists, and the Musettes, traditional group of women. These combined musical organizations unite their efforts twice during the College year in the presentation of a formal concert. 2. Instrumental. It is the aim of the Department of Music to maintain both a band of standard instrumentation and an orchestra of symphonic proportions, and to encourage musical growth through the study and public performance of the best in musical literature. These groups participate in at least three formal concerts each year. * On leave of absence 69 COURSES OF INSTRUCTION 1. Solfeggio.
