Marriott-Slaterville... planning ahead by Judi Elmer, Public Buildings Director Vll things considered, it is pretty incredible that Marriott-Slaterville City has its own city building right out of the shoot. And one with a tourist attraction to boot - a 4 Vi foot high drinking fountain. We have some nice furnishings thanks to donations and low cost items from the DDO and others. Let us know if you wish to donate anything that we could use in our city building. We can thank our Mayor and city leaders for their hard work obtaining this facility. We are really proud of our building and if you have not been over to visit yet, please accept our open standing invitation to come by. Marriott-Slaterville City just signed an open-ended lease (until prior to demolition of the building) with Ogden City for continued use of this building. That leads to the issue of future building developments. It is our vision to someday have a city complex with amenities including a senior center. In order to do this the city will have to acquire some property. We are asking for your input from the community to find a location suitable for this facility. Land donations to the city are tax-deductible, regardless of the type of land it is. make things even more interesting, the Weber County Library board is planning a library for the northwest quadrant. Raising the funds for such a venture will take some time, so it won't happen overnight. But it is very possible that the next library (in the next ten years) could be built in Marriott-Slaterville if we are able to find an appropriate spot. We are looking for property that is near a main road traveled by county residents and is at least five acres. One idea under investigation is the 7-acre field between the freeway and the High Country Inn, which is owned by UDOT. Another idea might be to look at a part of the open area north of the Pilot Travel Center. Tell us what your ideas are and where you'd like to see this facility. Marriott-Slaterville youth council makes trip to the legislature by Jeni Okey, Marriott-Slaterville Youth Council SALT LAKE CITY - On Wednesday, January 19th, five members of the Marriott-Slaterville Youth Council met at 6:15 AM at our City Hall to represent our city at the Utah State Capitol. The Utah League of Cities and Towns (ULCT) hosted a "Local Officials' Day at the Legislature" for many organizations in the state including youth councils. Upon arrival at the Capitol, we were provided a continental breakfast followed by a tour of the Capitol Building by our chaperon, Duncan Murray. At 10:00 that morning we met in an auditorium with youth councils from all over Utah. Representative Ray Short spoke on "Movie Review Regulation", and Senator Robert Montgomery talked to us about the Graduated Drivers License Amendments. After their orations, they opened up the floor to the audience for our questions, comments, and suggestions. They both received positive and negative feedback on their subjects. Following the speeches, we went into the gallery of the House and the Senate to listened to some of the session, and heard some bills being voted on. Both houses were very interesting. At noon, we had a luncheon with the Legislators provided by the Marriott Hotel. Following lunch, Tom Dolan, with ULCT, spoke of the Evolution of Cities. After his remarks, Gov. Leavitt made a few comments and thanked us for coming. We thank the city for providing our accommodations for this event, and we thank Duncan Murray for being our chaperon for the day.
