Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY JUNE 2000 Summer came upon Marriott-Slaterville without much notice. The warmer than average spring just blended into a hotter than normal summer. Our Precinct Sergeant, Kevin Burns, from the Weber County Sheriff's Office was transferred. Sergeant Hansen is our new Precinct Sergeant covering our city. Councilmember Dennis Ilium asked Elna Lucas, Historian, and Bill Morris to put together a list of all the historical street names our community has had since it was settled so that the city could consider restoration of those historical names. They looked through old maps of the community and found several street names. Once the list was completed, Bill Morris put together an ordinance for the restoration of historical street names as follows: 1. 1200 West as "Tomlinson Road" 2. Extension of Pioneer Road from 2000 West to 1200 West. 3. 2000 West south of 700 South as "Old Road" 4. 200 South starting at 1200 West meandering to 250 North, ending at the Slaterville Park as "School House Road" in honor of the old Marriott School where the current Marriott Park is today, the Slaterville School which was on Slaterville Park land, and Pioneer Elementary on 200 North. The City Council unanimously passed the ordinance followed by the approval of the Mayor restoring the above street names. History is an important part of this community, and our commemoration in restoring historical street names is part of preserving our heritage for future generations to come to know. |
