This office also handles all complaints dealing with student association or the administration of student affairs. IN COLLEGE STUDENT AFFAIRS... ge: AN OMBUDSMAN IS A LISTENER... and someone who tries to improve communications, someone who accommodates the opinions’ of others, someone who puts himself or herself out to find a satisfactory solution to the problem. WSC Ombudsman_ has helped solve problems and misunderstandings relative to facets of the college, such as traffic and parking, the bookstore, campus employment, WSC Security and College policy through the cooperation of administration and faculty officials. CONSUMER AFFAIRS AN OMBUDSMAN OMBUDSMAN WORKS FOR YOU... at WSC, in that the office of the Ombudsman functions as a central clearing house for complaints, problems, or suggestions from the student community. It does not replace any existing agency, but helps the student by working closely with those agencies or channels ... IS AN OFFICIAL... the word Ombudsman itself is a Swedish word coined to describe an official of an organization who _ investigates grievances against that organization. His purpose is to eliminate the impersonality of government by giving personal attention to individuals’ complaints. In May, 1967, the basic principles of this idea were applied for the first time to an American university campus. Not all of the goals of the Ombudsman are the same in this new setting, but the primary purposes are those of keeping communications open for the governed to express their problems and complaints to someone who can help to solve them. The Ombudsman serves as an impartial mediator in resolving consumer problems by working with community businessmen and advising students in consumer aftairs.
