Show ~ Page 6 November Signpost 7 ,1980 Harris Poll: Reagan’s Win Brings Sleep ‘Elying —W?” Lights by Doug Harris That’s the whole thing. Like when someone says ‘‘The United States is messing with our internal affairs’’. We say “SO WHAT?!?’’. Or when people say we support treacherous dictators, we say “SO WHAT?!?’’. Get it? Keeps things simple, and we don’t have to spend all that time and money explaining ourselves. Can you believe it? Ever since I was old enough to blow bubbles I’ve dreamed about Republicans winning something. First there was Barry Goldwater. Not the kind of guy you’d call a big winner. Then there was Dick Nixon. No the kind of guy you’d even call a small winner. Of course there was Jerry Ford. Not the kind of guy you’d call at all. While I was growing up, the Democrat’s solution to everything was to print a little money, and the problem was supposed to go away. Starving people in Africa? Print some money. Not enough’ Belgian’s_ in neighborhood school? Print some money. Your knee itch? Print some money. I’m surprised that there’s not a National Endowment Agency for the Promotion of Bodily Functions, to take that unpleasant task off our hands. Bu the way, don’t suggest that around; they still control the House, and probably haven’t thought of it yet. But now things will be different. All the old unworkable solutions will be thrown out, and we’ll return to the simple days when there were simple answers. The How about immediate problems. Well, I’ve had visions of the Ayatollah taking a shave and buying a dark blue three piece suit, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I have sent a carefully though-out plan to free the hostages to Ron Reagan. He calls the Ayatollah and says, ‘Look, I’m going to have an airplane there tomorrow, and when it leaves I want fifty-two extra passengers on it. If it doesn’t, I’m going to have a whole bunch of airplanes there tomorrow.’’ That might work. Or he could send a few hundred thousand Marines to Saudi Arabia and then threaten to tell them what ani-Sadr called their moms. ‘That might work, too. In any case, these next four years should be interesting. . Admittedly, we don’t know what Ronald Reagan will do or how he will act. But we have a pretty good idea of what will not happen since Jimmy Carter lost. And just with that, I for one am already sleeping better. new solutions? Well here’s a couple. Starving r_ ‘e in Africa? Make some. .ssiles! Too many Belgians in your neighborhood schools? Make some missiles! Sure, these might be bad solutions. But who’s gonna’ dare tell us about it? And the new foreign policy; goes like this. “SO WHAT?!?’’. Get it? Mountain by Dave Petersen The electric ‘‘Flying W”’ on the mountain side east ot the campus is once again telling the masses that it’s ‘‘Homecoming Time,’’ at WSC. For the past week the highly visible ‘‘Flying W’”’ has been pouring out approximately 2000 watts of incandescent brilliance! The electrical system was laid out and set up by a group of ASWSC devotee’s during the past two Saturday’s before Homecoming Week. The set-up consists of 106, 15 watt bulbs strung on 800 feet of wire. A rented generator runs the works on 4 gallons of gas per night. The lights are low heat, low wattage bulbs manufactured specifically for outdoor use. The ‘‘Flying W’’ shines from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. and the time is divided into two shifts. A fire extinguisher is on hand at all times. President Brady offered his services, but ASWSC had finished the work early. The project was headed by Lynn Krama, Ward Ogden and Jim Ruybal. The project was funded by ASWSC and the WSC Union. The ‘‘Flying W’’ will be operating till Saturday night. -Postscripts Nov. 7 .
