The next year with a fow more runners and a lot more hard work, Ben Lomond, headed by Brent Miller, took the team trophy away from Weber, This year the: Scotea“othe c:fthird or year in a row were able to claim some of the top distance remners in the state. After dropping the Little Broun Jug Race to Weber, the Scots went through all their Region competition without a defeat posting a 4-0 record, This included tivo wins over Davis and one each from Bountiful and a revenge victory over Weber, Ben Lomond split their team for the A.A.U. meet at the University of Utah in an attempt to bring back both the Sophmoe r and Varsity championship. The Sophemores brought back their trophy by taking four of the first six places with more than thirty entered. Steve Felt, a 440 sprin te , during the spring took the mile and one-half race with a great come back from behind finish. Rickey Anderaon, .DeLane Bell, Sid Smith} Stovu. Rands and Vance /n-derson, the entire team, all finished in the top fiftcen, The varsity despite the absence of Wade Bell, atid: some:of'the sophomores a - chieved a respectable but disappointin g fourth place in the state wide contest. Johnny Tucker, LeRoy Rands, and Tom Pobats’ @ll_ placed well in the meet which consisted of more than Seventy participants, One week later at the regional invitation on the Ben Lomond field, the Weber Warriors, A,A.U, champions aquecked past the crippled Scots by the slim margin 3639. Ron Morgan and Victor Trjuillio of avis High took first and second, but the next fifteen runners wore the colors of Neb2r and Ben Lomond, S eve Feltn DeLane Bell, LeRoy Rands, and Johnny Tucker all placed in the top ten for Ben Lomond. Competition in the Cross-Country increased greatly this year because this was the first year that any region hada schedule of meets in which runners could eee ing dr pnst the participate, In tle past. the Little Brow Jug and A.A.U, were the ‘onl y mects ‘available to Ocden runners; hows ever, this year both Ben Lomond and Weber took place in cight meets each; Tunis can mean only one thing and that is that Cross-Country running will som be a major high school Sport in the State of Utah.
