It is designed to encourage non-users of drugs and alcohol to continue to be non-users and helps users of drugs and alcohol find appropriate resources for intervention. The program also sponsors awareness activities for the general campus community. An additional component of this program deals with health education and learning to make healthy lifestyle choices. Health Center & Pharmacy Location: Student Service Center, Room 190 Telephone: 801-626-6459 The Student Health Center provides medical care for minor illnesses, immunizations, and some laboratory tests on a walk-in basis. The Health Center is staffed with a board certified physician, registered nurses, a medical technologist, and pharmacist. The physician is available from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Student Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (801-626-7924). Health Insurance for Students The student Health Insurance plan exists to supplement the services of the WSU Health Center by providing comprehensive health insurance that meets the needs of most students at economical costs. Coverage is provided through GM Southwest (1-877-334-4888). Open enrollment is the first three weeks of each semester. Housing Services Location: Promontory Tower, Main Floor Telephone: 801-626-7275 The Department of Housing Services manages four residence halls and a dining center on the Weber State campus. All of these facilities are clustered on the south side of campus convenient to classes, recreational areas, and commercial developments. There are a variety of economical room styles and meal plans available to residential students. Programs and events addressing a wide variety of interests are offered on a continuous basis. More information about the different housing options in addition to current rates is available on the Internet at http://weber.edu/housing/ STUDENT ID (WILDCARD) Location: Shepherd Union Business Office, Room 208 Telephone: 801-626-7700 The WILDCARD is available for students and their dependents and spouse. It is a student's campus ID which is needed to do things like use the testing center, the gym, and the library. It can be used by students and their dependents and spouse to admit them into Weber State Athletic events, Student Programming Board activities, and the Swenson gym. There is a $5.00 card fee for each card. Dependents and spouses of students also pay a $10.00 activation fee per semester. Environmental Health and Safety is concerned with promoting the health and safety of the campus community and with protecting the environment. Academic Support Services Assessment and Placement Location: Student Service Center, Room 272 Telephone: 801-626-6870 The mission of Assessment/Placement is to assess the learning skills of freshman students and to assist them in formulating an individualized development plan. The assessment program is computerized and complimented by computerized tutorial programs. Assessment areas include reading, writing, math, study- skills, career goals, academic values and critical reasoning skills. Services provided include academic tutoring, module reading programs, and the use of educational equipment such as computer terminals, video and audio tape players, copier and faculty reserve materials. Academic Support Services & Programs Location: Student Service Center, Room 272 Telephone: 801-626-6870 Academic Support Services & Programs Center is designed to assist students in completing their educational goals through the development of effective learning and reasoning processes, appropriate self-management behaviors, and meaningful life skills. ASCL includes an open lab with software support found in other open labs as well as a specialist classroom to assist students in making successful use of computer technology. This includes tutoring software such as Passkey, an interactive tutoring and diagnostic program designed by McGraw-Hill and Compass, a computer adaptive placement and support system designed by ACT. The Center also offers a computer lab for students' use and assistance with basic computer skills. The instruction is free of charge, with no appointment necessary. Tests are also administered for various academic departments on campus and for Independent Study courses. Testing for Online Courses is available in the Student Service Center (5 computers), Social Science Center (16 computers), and at the Davis Campus, 915 W. 1000 N., Layton, Utah (6 computers). Students may take advantage of this program if they receive or qualify to receive financial aid, have a documented disability, or neither one of their parents has a bachelors degree.
